Defining support material in Ultimaker Cura

If you like me got in the world of 3D printing you know how tricky printing over angles larger than 60 degrees can be. The solution is to use support material, i.e. to use the same printing material to print support stands along with the desired shape.
I generally slice my models using the Ultimaker Cura, which offers a bunch of settings for this purpose.
As shown here, the main aspects to define are:
  • Support placement
  • Support overhang angle
  • Support pattern
  • Support Density
  • Support Z Distance
  • Support X/Y Distance
  • Minimum Support X/Y Distance
  • Use Towers
Cura also provides experimentally the three-like support, which should in certain cases allow for saving significant amount of material.

The video below provides a walkthrough.

The 3D model here can be used to set those settings afterwards.

Enjoy.
